چکیده

We present low-state IUE spectroscopy of the ROSAT-discovered polar RX J1313.2−3259. The SWP spectrum displays a broad Lyα absorption profile, which can be fitted with a two-temperature model of a white dwarf of T wd = 15 000 K with a hot spot of T spot = 34 000 K which covers f ∼ 0.01 of the white dwarf surface. The white dwarf temperature is atypically low for the long orbital period (4.18 h) of RX J1313.2−3259. This low temperature implies either that the system is a young CV in the process of switching on mass transfer or that it is an older CV found in a prolonged state of low accretion rate, much below that predicted by standard evolution theory. In the first case, we can put a lower limit on the life time as pre-CV of 10 8 yrs. In the second case, the good agreement of the white dwarf temperature with that expected from compressional heating suggests that the system has experienced the current low accretion rate for an extended period > 10 4 yrs. A possible explanation for the low accretion rate is that RX J1313.2−3259 is a hibernating post nova and observational tests are suggested.

THE ULTRALUMINOUS X-RAY SOURCES NGC 1313 X-1 AND X-2: A BROADBAND STUDY WITH NuSTAR AND XMM–Newton

We present the results of NuSTAR and XMM–Newton observations of the two ultraluminous X-ray sources NGC 1313 X-1 and X-2. The combined spectral bandpass of the two satellites enables us to produce the first spectrum of X-1 between 0.3 and 30keV, while X-2 is not significantly detected by NuSTAR above 10 keV. The NuSTAR data demonstrate that X-1 has a clear cutoff above 10 keV, whose presence wa...

NGC 1313 is the most massive disk galaxy showing a flat radial abundance distribution in its interstellar gas, a behavior generally observed in magellanic and irregular galaxies. We have attempted to reproduce this flat abundance distribution using a multiphase chemical evolution model, which has been previously used successfully to depict other spiral galaxies along the Hubble morphological se...
